Kiwi Catch

A pocket guide for fishing in New Zealand. Check whether a fish is a keeper, see the tides and bite times for your spot, and keep a log of what you catch.

Free, with ads. For iPhone, on the New Zealand App Store. An Android version is on the way.

The Today screen: tide height, next low tide, bite window, and the tide chart.
The Check screen for snapper: daily limit 7, minimum size 30 cm.

What it does

Is it a keeper?

  • Size and daily limits for the fishing zone you are in, worked out from your location.
  • Measure a fish with the camera, or from a photo with a bank card or coin for scale.
  • Keeps count of what you have kept today against the daily and combined limits.
  • Warns you when you are in or near a marine reserve.

Tides, wind and bite times

  • High and low tides for the nearest standard port, for any day, on a chart you can slide your finger across.
  • Wind forecast for the next two days.
  • Moon phase, solunar bite times and today’s best window.
  • First light, sunrise, sunset and last light.
  • Reminders before the best bite window or high tide.

Your catch log

  • Log a catch in one tap, or add a photo, size, weight and notes.
  • Personal bests and stats, and export to a spreadsheet.
  • Syncs between your devices with iCloud.
  • Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets.

Works without signal

  • Download the tide tables before a trip.
  • The rules, zone maps, marine reserves and your log all work offline.

Kiwi Catch is an independent app. It is not made by or affiliated with MPI, Fisheries New Zealand, the Department of Conservation or LINZ. Rules change and not every closure, rāhui or local bylaw is included, so check the official MPI rules before you keep a fish. Tide and weather information is a guide only and is not for navigation.
